Extensive programming revealed that Petrobras, the world's third-largest energy company, had been accommodating its growth through constant reconstruction of its workspace.  This normal industry practice typically means downtime and lost productivity during its frequent team reorganizations.  We implemented a three-faceted design solution.  First, modular walls allow for rapid and less costly reconfiguration of the workspace.  Then, modular, plug-and-play electrical service reduces or eliminates the cost associated with hiring an electrician for modular wall relocation.  Finally, raised access flooring allows the systems furniture to be re-envisioned by providing extra length in its electrical connections, facilitating less costly moves.  Downtime is minimized, and re-configurations require only maintenance personnel.  Taken together, these strategies provide a full return on investment after only one move of walls and furniture.
