Stanaker Neighborhood Branch Library
This Houston Public Library (HPL) branch no longer met many of the HPL standards, particularly with regard to connectivity and computer availability. The building envelope of this relatively new construction had suffered premature wear, requiring repair, and the quality of the library patrons’ experience had diminished.
The main challenge resulted from this dynamic and changing neighborhood: the existing building no longer related to the fabric of the neighborhood in which it resides. We implemented as many updated HPL standards as this limited space could accommodate, improved vehicle and pedestrian safety to the site and, most importantly, improved the building envelope to be higher-performing than before while integrating the re-envisioned exterior into the context of the neighborhood.
