In the heart of the Texas Medical Center, the blood donor center in the lower level of Methodist Hospital had a dual-service business model: 1) public blood donation center, and 2) in-patient blood treatment facility.  As no As-Built drawings existed for the space, the design had to be dexterous enough to accommodate unforeseen obstacles as they were encountered during construction.  We successfully designed a compact and efficient layout that provides separation of the two user groups while still allowing shared use of the highly specialized blood treatment equipment.  Additionally, we satisfied the requirements to design a modest space that picked up on the colors and materials of the existing space and adhered to the design standards already in use by Methodist Hospital.
