Channel Industries Mutual Aid (CIMA) desired to create administrative space for its non-profit organization. The general design intent was to create a functional office building with modern, innovative, yet economical design applications for this emergency response team that provides a facility where member refiners come together to provide aid to each other in the event of a crisis at any facility on the Houston Ship Channel. The major challenge to this project was creating a space that was flexible enough to be used by multiple end users.  The space was to be used as administrative offices, a community-based meeting and resource center and for different types of industry-related training.  The most critical function of the space, however, was to serve as a remote emergency operations center, should the need arise.  We were able to accomplish all these goals and provide a versatile space to serve all CIMA’s needs, while designing within their budget.
